Deadly wildfire spreads in southern France
A massive wildfire swept through southern France, destroying homes and forcing thousands to evacuate. The blaze broke out on Tuesday near the village of La Ribaute in the Aude region, already having burned more than 13,000 hectares (50 sq miles) - an area larger than Paris - and is the largest wildfire in France this year. One person has died, another is missing, and at least 25 homes have been destroyed, with over 2,500 households without electricity.
Efforts to fight the fire
Over 1,800 firefighters, supported by 500 vehicles, are deployed to the area. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, which comes as several European countries battle unprecedented wildfires this summer.
