France returns slain king's skull to Madagascar

Slain king's skull to be returned to Madagascar

The French president has announced the return of the skull of a 19th-century king of Madagascar who was killed during colonial rule.

Ravolomanana III, who ruled the island in the mid-19th century, was killed in combat when the island was a French colony. His skull was taken to France in 1931 as scientists sought to study and prove racism at the time.

Now, President Emmanuel Macron has deemed the relic will be returned to the country, along with 26 other artifacts taken during the colonial period. The move comes after months of protests against racism and slavery in the country.

Protestors celebrate return of relics

Madagascar natives rejoice over the return of their ancestors remains and relics. The move is seen as a step forward in the country's fight against racism and colonial oppression.
