Mob burns Nigerian woman to death for alleged blasphemy

A woman in Nigeria has been brutally killed by a mob after allegedly committing blasphemy in a scenario reminiscent of the 2017 Hajj crisis.

The Incident

In the latest incident, a woman identified as Ramatu Balogun was accused of blasphemy by a fellow trader at the Oja Oba Market in the city of Akure.

Witnesses claim she was praying to an idol. Blasphemy is a severe crime in many Muslim-majority countries and can carry the death penalty.

Response and Curation

The incident has sparked national and international outrage and has led to increased concerns over religious intolerance and human rights abuses in Nigeria.

As a consequence, the Akure police have launched an investigation into the incident and arrested four suspects in connection with Balogun's death.
