New bodies found near site of Kenya's starvation cult burials

More bodies have been discovered close to the site of a former property in Kenya that was used for burials related to a starvation cult.

The bodies were found less than 10 meters away from the property line in Nakuru, following an excavation effort that began earlier this week. So far, police have recovered 34 bodies, with 13 of those being children. Authorities believe there could be up to 100 bodies buried on the site.

The cult leader, who promised salvation for those who followed her, told followers that a Judgment Day was coming and encouraged them to sell their possessions and practice vegetarianism. She also encouraged them to drink a lethal substance if they were suffering.

The leader, who died in 2017, was convicted and sentenced to death for killing a child in 2013. Police say that the bodies found on the site were buried in a shallow grave without any formal funerals.

Police believe there may be other sites connected to the cult and are asking for help from the public in finding them. They are also encouraging family members of cult members to come forward to help identify the bodies.

"The police are in the process of identifying the remaining bodies, and we are asking anyone who may have information about the activities of this group to come forward and share it with us," said a statement from the police. "It is important that these victims are given the dignity of a proper burial, and that their families have the answers they deserve."

The disturbing discovery has shocked the nation and triggered investigations into similar movements and activities in different regions.
