US drops charges against doctor accused of destroying Covid vaccines

The US has dropped charges against a Texas doctor accused of attempting to destroy coronavirus vaccines, with prosecutors citing insufficient evidence and the difficulty of proceeding with the case. Dr. Emily Rose Garcia, an OB-GYN in San Antonio, was arrested in February after police said she took several vials of the Pfizer vaccine and dumped them into a bathroom sink, with officials saying they had video evidence of the crime. However, prosecutors with the US Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas said yesterday that they had reviewed the evidence and decided not to pursue a criminal prosecution due to a lack of sufficient evidence to meet the high legal burden required to prove that Garcia intentionally destroyed property. A new FBI affidavit revealed that the vials of vaccine were recovered and saved after their disposal, contradicting the earlier claims of police that they would have to be discarded.
